We understand that there are many questions when considering your choice of school. Please contact our Registrar, Mrs Chris Quigley, who will be happy to chat about any aspect of school life and admissions.

School Visit

A visit is recommended before taking the next step. There is no alternative to coming to see Newcastle-under-Lyme School for yourself, to sample the atmosphere and, most of all, to meet the people.

Open Morning

We have an annual Open Morning for prospective parents and pupils, which will be held at the beginning of October 2017. The Sixth Form Open Evening will also be held during October 2017. The next Junior School Open Morning will be the 22 March 2017.

Open Days

We would be delighted to welcome you to see the School at your convenience. In this sense every day is an Open Day. To see the School in action, to meet the students and staff and/or to speak to the Headmaster, please contact Mrs Chris Quigley, Registrar, on 01782 664620 to arrange your visit.

Registration

Parents wishing to register prospective pupils are requested to complete the registration form and return it to the Registrar.

Our Junior School children will be offered an “Assessed Place” during the Spring Term of Year 5 based on the School’s knowledge of them and their performance in our InCAS assessments.

12 and 13+ Entry

The Examination for 12 and 13+ entry in September 2017 is by appointment at any time during the school year.

Candidates for entry into the Senior School take papers in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English. The results of Entry Examinations are published as soon as possible after the examination. Where appropriate parents will be advised of financial help available through Bursaries or Scholarship Schemes.

Entry at 14+

Entry at 14+ is by interview and school report. Applicants may be required to take an examination at the School.

Entry into the Sixth Form

Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and school report. After a satisfactory report from the applicant’s present school and a satisfactory interview, an offer will be made conditional upon the applicant gaining specified grades at GCSE. An offer will normally be made within two weeks of interview.
The Scholarship Examinations for Mathematics and Physics for entry into the Sixth Form in September 2017 will be held at the end of January 2017.

Acceptance

Parents are required to signify their acceptance of an offer - or otherwise -by a specified date. An acceptance deposit, up to the value of 10% of School fees, will be payable when the parents accept the offer. £150 of the Acceptance Deposit will be repaid by means of credit, without interest, to the final fees, or other sums due to the School, on leaving. The remainder of the Acceptance Deposit will be credited to the first term’s fees except as below. A term’s fees (less deposit/s held) will be payable by the parents if, for any reason, they cancel their acceptance of a place less than a term before entry, or the pupil does not join the School after a place has been accepted. Parents who withdraw giving a full term’s notice before entry will not have to pay fees in lieu, but the full (10% of fees) deposit will be retained by the School. Cases of serious illness or genuine hardship may receive special consideration on written request.

Entry

Following acceptance of a place, parents and pupils will be invited into the School to receive more information and meet Form Tutors. Finally we hope to welcome your son/daughter to Newcastle-under-Lyme School.
