School Pupil wins prestigious RAF Scholarship

Newcastle-under-Lyme School was delighted to welcome RAF Squadron Leader Carrie Rossi, Senior Careers Liaison Officer for Wales and the West Midlands Area. She came to present an RAF Sixth Form Scholarship to local Newcastle student Edward Cooper.

This prestigious award provides a financial reward as well as offering a training course in leadership and an opening to apply for direct entry to the RAF at the age of 18 or further sponsorship through University.

Ed participates in Newcastle-under-Lyme School’s Combined Cadet Force programme. The Contingent at the School was formed in 1910 as an Officers Training Corps (OTC) for Army cadets. After the Second World War the CCF replaced the OTC. At Newcastle there was initially only an Army section. However by 1967 Royal Navy and Royal Air Force sections had been formed. Today the Contingent is one of the few to be composed of all three sections.
