The Headmaster welcomes Year 10 and Year 7 pupils back to School
We are pleased to announce that Mr Nick Vernon has been asked by the Chair of Governors, David Wallbank, to lead Newcastle-under-Lyme School, acting as Headmaster from September 2017. Nick has been Head of our Junior School for nine years and a member of the Whole School Senior Management Team throughout that time.
Nick joined Newcastle-under-Lyme School from Stockport Grammar School having previously held the position of Junior School Deputy Head. He is married to Amanda, a P.E. teacher at Cheadle Hulme School, and has four children aged 14, 12, 9 and 8. Nick attended Stockport Grammar School, before receiving a BSc(Hons) in Sports Science from Liverpool Polytechnic. He went on to obtain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and an MA in Education from Manchester Metropolitan University. He is an Independent Schools’ Inspector with the experience of 6 school inspections behind him and he has been Secretary of the Association of Junior Independent Schools for the past eight years.
Nick is a keen and active sportsman and currently manages his son’s football team. Nick is also an ‘average-at-best’ saxophonist, but claims his playing days are over! He has been actively involved in teaching mathematics in the Junior School along with supporting School trips and taking table tennis and cricket clubs and teams. Nick hopes to continue to be the goalkeeper for the staff football team, but realises that the team manager is now under added pressure!
Nick says, “I very much have the School’s best interest at heart and feel I am uniquely placed to ensure a smooth transition and to bring a fresh perspective to the School. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure Newcastle-under-Lyme School has a bright future.”
Mr Wallbank added, “We are delighted to have the guidance and leadership of Nick Vernon at this time. He knows the School so well, and many of the pupils and parents already, which will enable us to move forward confidently. We look forward to working with Nick and his management team to build a strong future for the School, whilst upholding our unique traits of academic excellence, strong community, happy pupils and lifelong friendships.”
